A 12-year-old dog whose tongue permanently hangs out of the side of his mouth has been named Britain’s ugliest pooch.

Muppet, a Chinese Crested from Peterborough, took home the title after beating seven other contestants in a competition organized by photography company Parrot Print. The final was broadcast live on ITV’s This Morning.

Owner Bev Nicholson described Muppet as a “wonky little rescue dog” with missing teeth, but insisted he was “beautiful inside and out.”

Head judge and founder of the competition, Matt Dahan, remarked that Muppet was “both cute and ugly at the same time.”

Muppet is the second dog in the family to win this title, following his brother Mugly, who was crowned the world’s ugliest dog in 2012.

Along with the trophy, Muppet was treated to a pampering session at a luxury dog spa, which included a mud bath and a festive Christmas-themed photoshoot.

Ms. Nicholson said, “I know people say there’s no such thing as an ugly dog, but it’s really just a term of endearment. After all, there are ugly humans, right?”

She added, “The difference is, Muppet has inner beauty. He’s not just a pink dog with a comb-over.”

“Walks can take a while because people always want to stop us, especially if he’s riding in his stroller—his ‘chariot,’ as we call it,” Ms. Nicholson added. “He loves it in there; it’s warm, and he’s at the perfect height to feel comfortable.”

“People even take selfies with him, sticking their tongues out just like his!”

“When I heard Muppet had won, it made me giggle,” she said. “I’m so happy for him—he doesn’t know any different, and it’s nice to see a little wonky rescue dog end up with such a quirky title.”

“Muppet absolutely loved his mud bath, and aside from a cheeky little poop at the photography studio, he behaved perfectly. The photos turned out fabulous!”

“All in all, it’s been a fantastic experience.”
