These are the North East beaches where dogs are banned between May 1 and September 30 each year.

From Northumberland down to County Durham, the North East has some beautiful beaches.

And in the summer the coastline can be packed with families looking to enjoy a day in the sun. But each year between May 1 and September 30, some of the region’s popular beaches become subject to a dog ban, preventing owners from walking their dogs on the beach.

The ban is part of a Public Space Protection Order and anyone seen breaching the ban could be prosecuted. So, it’s important to know where the restrictions are in place.

A number of dog bans are now in force on beaches in Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland. While there were talks of a ban being implemented on Seaham beach in County Durham between 10am and 3pm from May until September, the council recently announced that following a public consultation, these proposals were not implemented.
