SPALDING HOSTS MORE THAN 250 CATS AT INTERNATIONAL SHOW

More than 250 cats have descended on Spalding for the town’s third international cat show.
The two-day event at Springfields Events Centre on Camel Gate included a cat agility course and a breeders’ area.
Organiser Stephen Winmin said each cat was judged on its own merit, with five judges assessing every cat at the show.
“Each breed has its own standard of points,” he said. “Head and eye shape, coat, ears, tail length, tail type.”
He added: “There is no genetic modification. Everything is what nature has decided. So the American curl’s ears curl back, the Maine Coon is a big cat, the sphynx is a bald cat.”
Mr Winmin said the show is about “embracing the cats and making the most of what they bring to us in our houses”.
Competitor Kinga Edwards, owner of a sphynx cat, said: “We get to meet people that we like, see beautiful cats from all over the country, and obviously, the competition element – everyone wants to be the best and have the best cat.”
It is the third time Spalding hosted the show.
