Scientists have confirmed what they believe is the cutest dog breed.
To determine the top spot, 100 dog breed were ranked using the ‘golden ratio’, which is an ancient algebraic equation that determines how aesthetically pleasing something is to the human eye.
When using this on dogs, the equation takes into account the ratio between key points on a dog’s face, such as ears, eyes, nostrils and tongue.
Once the ratios are calculated, the percentages were compared to the ‘golden ratio’ and those with the higher percentage were deemed the cutest breeds.
The research was analysed by pet insurance comparison site, MoneyBeach.co.uk and the results are very interesting!
The breed that came up on top were Dalmatians, followed Irish Water Spaniels, Wire Fox Terriers, Labradors and Basset Hounds.
The research also did another analysis among all pets, trying to determine which ones are the cutest in the world.
Sorry dog lovers, the cats come out on top in this one!
Cats were deemed the cutest, followed by ferrets (yes, we are surprised about this one too!), rabbits and hamsters, with our canine friends coming in at fifth place.
Mike Rees, CEO of MoneyBeach.co.uk, explained the analysis to Tyla, saying “There’s often a lot of discussion about which pet is the cutest, so we were keen to leave it up to science to settle the debate once and for all.
“The ‘golden ratio’ is an equation that has been used for hundreds of years, so it’s hard to argue with the results and it was fascinating to see breeds such as Rottweilers or the Basset Hound being favoured by the laws of science.” he explained.
“While Dalmatian owners might be feeling a little smug with the news, I’m sure cat people will be the most thrilled, as they now have the evidence to back themselves up, when telling dog lovers that their pet is in fact the cutest”, he added.
