Puppies might be the secret to a healthier, happier future for dogs everywhere.

Dog owners in Wales with puppies younger than 16 weeks are invited to join Generation Pup — a groundbreaking long-term study run by Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity.

This unique project is the first to follow dogs of all breeds throughout their lives, aiming to uncover what shapes their health and behaviour over time.

Dr Jane Murray, Deputy Head of Research for Welfare Projects and Grants at Dogs Trust, said:

“This vital study is designed to help us better understand how a dog’s early life experiences can shape their health and behaviour as they grow.”

“Your participation will make a valuable contribution to improving the welfare of dogs now and in the future.”

Researchers are gathering data on each puppy’s environment, family, health, behaviour and daily experiences.

The charity is close to reaching its goal of 10,000 participants and is now appealing for the final few hundred puppies.

One recent study found that 12-month-old dogs were most likely to display unwanted behaviours such as barking, recall problems, pulling on the lead and jumping up.
