These areas have been praised for their pet shops and spacious parks.

The 10 UK cities with the happiest dogs have been revealed — and the coastal city of Swansea in Wales has scooped the top spot, thanks to its dog-friendly accommodation, pet shops and spacious parks.

In order to determine the happiness levels of our four-legged friends, OnBuy Pet Supplies created an index of six key factors including the number of parks, dog grooming places, dog vs cat population, pet shops and accommodation in each area.

While Swansea was found to have the happiest pups, Plymouth, Manchester, Blackpool and Belfast rounded up the top five, all praised for their plentiful dog-friendly areas.

“If your dog has a toxic relationship with cats we recommend Manchester where you can find a lower population of felines, however if your pet is partial to his monthly grooming, Plymouth is a great place for them,” the team at OnBuy explain.

On the other hand, however, the cities scoring the lowest were Oxford, Cambridge, Southend-on-Sea, Milton Keynes and Bradford. These areas might have beautiful surroundings, but they were found to have the lowest numbers of pet shops, parks and dog groomers.
