While every dog has its own personality, some breeds are known for their rebellious tendencies. Will Atherton from Canine Training shared, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with thousands of dogs and their owners.”

This experience has given him the opportunity to train many different breeds. When discussing his “three least favorite breeds” to train, he began with the Siberian Husky.

“I always sigh when I realize I’ll be working with a Siberian Husky,” Will admitted. He described the breed’s temperament as “frustrating,” noting that training a Siberian Husky is “challenging.”

Will explained, “In my experience, Siberian Huskies are almost cat-like; they have very little desire to please their owners. They know what they want and are primarily focused on getting it—regardless of whether they follow commands.”

These dogs are “ludicrously high-energy” and are bred to run up to “30 miles a day in harsh conditions while pulling heavy sleds.”

Will explained, “Then we bring them into our homes and expect them to be happy with just a 20-minute walk around the block.”

He emphasized that this approach won’t make the dog happy, and given their “drama queen” tendencies, you can anticipate “squealing and howling.”

“They’re incredibly dramatic,” Will reiterated, adding that this behavior makes training not only more challenging but also somewhat embarrassing. He made it clear, “I would never choose to own one myself in the future.”

The second type of breed that Will is not a fan of training is “anything a poo: Cockapoo, Cavapoo, you name it”.

Will explained, “I’ve noticed that people who are drawn to these breeds often commit the cardinal sin of humanizing dogs, which can lead to significant issues.”

The third breed Will dislikes training is the Caucasian Shepherd, also known as the Central Asian Shepherd.

“Fortunately, they’re quite rare, so I’ve only had the chance to work with a few of them myself.”
