YOUTUBER SHARES STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL TO MAKE A CAT TOY THAT WILL KEEP YOUR PET ENTERTAINED FOR HOURS

Cats need entertainment, otherwise they’re going to wreak havoc.

You know what that means – scratched up furniture, knocked-over water glasses, the lot.

But if you don’t fancy spending yet more money on toys for your feline friend (especially if they’re just going to ignore their presents in favour of the box), never fear – a YouTuber has shared how to DIY something special.

Zoir Azimuratov, a content creator from Dushanbe, Tajikistan, has shared a step-by-step tutorial for making your cat their very own toy.

All you’ll need is some cardboard, a compass, a crafting knife, hot glue, and some ping pong balls.

Zoir said: ‘The trick with my videos is that I make something from scrap materials.

‘It’s a cheap project – a pair of ping pong balls only costs about 10 or 20 cents!’

How to make your own cat toy

What you’ll need:

• Cardboard – use some old delivery boxes
• A compass
• A pencil
• A ruler
• A craft knife
• Glue – a hot glue gun is great, but any strong glue should work too
• Ping pong balls
• Catnip (optional)
  
  

Method:

1. Extend your compass to 15cm (or whatever diameter you’d like your toy to have) and use this to draw a circle on to your cardboard
2. Use your craft knife to cut out the circle
3. Check the width of your ping pong balls, then use your compass to draw three circles inside your cardboard circle, to create gaps for your cat to reach the balls. Watch the video for this bit, as it’s tricky to explain in words!
4. Cut out rectangles of cardboard, all the same width, then wrap one into a coil, taping to secure.
5. Place this coil into another piece of cardboard and coil again. Repeat this process until you have a big coil the size of the centre circle in your cardboard circle.
6. Glue your cardboard circle to the coil.
7. Use another long strip of cardboard to cover the outside of your toy.
8. Cut out another cardboard circle to match your first one.
9. Add balls inside your toy.
10. Glue the cardboard circle to the base.
11. Sprinkle catnip over the toy when you’re ready to play.
