Christmas is nearly here – and, as such, pet owners have been issued an urgent warning.
Ahead of the festive period, owners of pooches nationwide are being urged to ensure their beloved animals aren’t consuming toxic foodstuffs.
Dogs could fall ill if they have harmful treats – from chocolates to raisins, according to Dogs Trust agencies and bodies nationwide.
Dog owners are warned festive food staples like onions and chives can cause issues for pets, too.
One Dogs Trust body in the North West of England has alarmingly warned: “With less than a week to go until Christmas, here’s some useful info to keep your dog safe this festive season!”
Helpfully, the body has shared a list of tricks, tips and hacks dog owners can follow to ensure their beloved pets stay safe.
Dog owners are told to brush up on their knowledge of the list, taking extra care and proceeding through the Christmas period with caution.
The owners of pooches are urged to keep human treats out of sight – and, equally as importantly, out of smell too.
Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, chocolate and mince pies MUST be avoided, as well as drinking chocolate, mulled wine or any alcohol.
Dog owners are urged to ensure dogs aren’t consuming shallots, garlic, chives and leeks, as well as onions, and pets should also be kept out of the way of holly berries and misteltoe.
If not, they risk diarrhea, vomiting and damage to red blood cells.
