VETS ISSUES STARK WARNING TO EVERY DOG OWNER WHO WALKS PET IN THE WOODLAND

Vets are warning over seasonal canine illness, as the first cases are reported by animals in the UK.
A veterinary group has issued a stark warning to every dog owner who walks their pet through woodland or heathland.
Concerns have been raised after some cases of dogs being struck by seasonal canine illness (SCI) have been reported in the UK.
According to the Healthy Pet Club, it affects dogs shortly after walking in woodland and can be fatal – thought often isn’t if treated early enough.
A vets practice has now taken to social media to share what dog owners need to keep an eye out for, reports BirminghamLive.
Dowding Vets wrote: “Seasonal Canine Illness ALERT!!!
“We have just seen our first case of seasonal canine illness.
“Take care when walking around the Daneshill Lakes area; but remember your dog could be at risk walking in ANY woodland area.”
The vets added: “We advise that until the weather changes to cooler temperatures avoid walking your dog in woodland or heathland.”
In another helpful update, the vets shared what to look out for.
Dog owners were warned of three key signs in animals – vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy.
The vet group then added: These clinical signs come on very quickly – usually within 72 hours.
“After walks check between toes, in armpits and groin area, and around ears for orange/red coloured mites (see photograph).
“Please get in contact for further advice if your dog has any of these symptoms.”
