Toltex, 10, has an array of vehicles to choose from — they include a Jurassic Park-inspired Jeep and an ambulance.
A bored cat owner has occupied her time during lockdown transforming cardboard boxes into cars for her pet to play in, keeping them both entertained.
After noticing that her cat, Toltex, enjoyed hopping into the empty boxes she had accumulated in her home from shopping during lockdown, greetings card designer Jen Prior decided to get creative.
Cardboard cat cars
Ms Prior, 29, has crafted a series of vehicles including a Jurassic Park-inspired Jeep and an ambulance, so Toltex, 10, can preside over the garden in style.
The cat-car creator began alleviating her boredom during quarantine by watching clips on the video sharing platform Tik Tok, and was inspired by the footage of animals she saw there. Her sister read about pet owners making cardboard tanks for their cats during lockdown and suggested Ms Prior follow suit.
“T absolutely loves cardboard boxes anyway – when I’m working inside on my dining table, if I’ve got a cardboard box, he’ll just jump in it…he falls asleep in them,” said Toltex’s owner, who lives in Bracknell, Berkshire.
To make the tank, Ms Prior used an H&M cardboard box for the base, and other leftover cardboard for the details. While she spent more than two hours every night for a week building most of the creations, the Jurassic Park one “definitely took longer”.
She constructed the Jeep using part of the tank and part of the ambulance after spending “ages” researching its appearance using Google Images.
Batmobile plans
Ms Prior and her boyfriend plan to make a Batmobile and a James Bond Aston Martin next – and they might attempt a Spitfire aircraft.
“It’s just a bit of fun to cheer people up during such a difficult time,” Ms Prior said. “We all need a good laugh.”
