POLICE WANT YOUR HELP NAMING NEW PUPPIES AFTER NHS HEROES

A UK police force want help naming puppies after NHS heroes sacrificing their lives on the coronavirus frontline.
West Midlands Police’s dogs division welcomed a new litter of German Shepherds last month, when the country was put on lockdown.
The four girls and three boys were born at the dog training centre in Balsall Common and are now four weeks old.
They are yet to be named, with officers asking members of the public for suggestions that show gratitude for NHS workers.
West Midlands Police tweeted: ‘Our latest police puppies have just been born. As a thank you to our life-saving carers we want your help to name our “NHS Heroes” litter.
‘Reply with your suggestions. Come up with names that show the gratitude we all have for our #NHSheroes during #COVID19’.
The force added that they were looking for names that ‘epitomise’ the NHS while making ‘great pup names’.
The best seven will be picked next week, a spokesperson said.
To get the ball rolling, officers put forward some of their own suggestions, including Nightingale and Heart.
Several people called for one of the pups to be named after Captain Tom Moore – the 99-year-old veteran who has raised over £16 million for the NHS.
It was also suggested that the pups be named after NHS staff who saved the life of a West Midlands officer who nearly died from the coronavirus.
Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby was in intensive care for 13 days after contracting the deadly disease. He pulled through and is now in hospital recovering.
He tweeted: ’Individual names of the amazing staff could include all sorts of exotic names, given the truly multi-national workforce they have here. PD WARDY, named after the wards here might be a good idea too.’
